Phillips Ridge, Golden Hinde

Golden Hinde, Phillips Ridge Sept 28-30, 2024 3340M Elevation Gain And Descent 59KM Total 50H 38M C2C Phillips Ridge - 1730M 310M Prominence 49.597057 -125.680688 Sept 28, 2024 Phillips Ridge is quite evidently just the high point on the ridge. It is marked as a summit on most maps though, as the ridge itself is quite prominent. There is really nothing to say about this point in the route, we took a few minutes and maybe a snack break and kept on our way.  Golden Hinde - 2197M 2197M Prominence 49.662507 -125.747135 Sept 29, 2024 On the last weekend in September Tyler and I set out to climb the highest peak on Vancouver Island. We got off to a bit of a rough start by narrowly missing the second last ferry from Powell River on Friday night. We ended up having to catch the 8:45 and we ended up getting to the trailhead after midnight and not falling asleep until after 1AM. Because of this, we got a bit of a late start to the morning and we ended up hitting the trail around 8AM. Our rou...

Pickles and Puzzles Mountain, Snowy Peak, Thunderdome Peak, Crossroads Peak

Pickles and Puzzles Mountain, Snowy Peak, Thunderdome Peak, Crossroads Peak September 15, 2024 2500M + Elevation gain Pickles and Puzzles Mountain - 1738M 78M Prominence 50.113191 -124.158895 On the morning of the 15th, Tyler, Scott and I took off in the Tacoma with Lochlan trailing behind on his quad, we made it to the Emma lake trailhead by 9 and got going. The way up was all to familiar, and after 2 hours and 15 minutes on the trail, we made it to the hut and had a break. The boys were feeling good, so Tyler Lochlan and I set out to start the day's objective; Circumnavigate the lake and bag all the peaks around it. This is something a bit out of the ordinary for me, as it was more of a traverse/peak bagging mission than one single objective. The first peak of the batch was Pickles and Puzzles. Admittedly not the most striking of peaks, but it sure has a damn good name. The way up is pretty simple, we followed the South Powell Divide trail for a while, then eventually left it and...

Argus Mountain, Mount Harmston, Comox Glacier Summit

Argus Mountain, Mount Harmston, Comox Glacier Summit Sept 1-2, 2024 3050M+ Elevation Gain 17H 45M Moving, 30H 30M C2C Argus Mountain - 1994M 269M Prominence 49.538584 -125.386618 Argus mountain was probably the most intriguing out of the three summits on this mission. I had been reading about it in my Island Alpine select book, and had marked off the page. The start of the Argus climb from the ridge walk is defined by a small scree slope coming out of the North East Gulley. This is the gulley which we would be going up. The NE gulley is made much more difficult by snow in other years, but this year, and increasingly more frequently, nearly all but one little chunk of snow has melted off. The gulley was not long or particularly difficult, maybe high third class, but it was extremely chossy. A constant fall of loose gravel and larger rocks were shooting down the gully. To make our travel up a bit more safe, I would complete a section, then pull over and let Jason catch up to me...
