Tin Hat is without a doubt the most popular mountain over 1000M to visit in the Qathet region. It had been far too long since I had been up and honestly I don't even remember it. My mom and a few friends of hers decided to go up, as it had been a while since we did any adventuring together. We parked at Spring Lake where the Sunshine Coast trail gets cut off by Spring main. The first third of our loop was a relaxing wander through the low elevation forest, passing by Lewis lake, and a waterfall. After crossing a few more gravel roads, the trail starts to steepen up. After approximately 4 hours, we reach the cabin. Last night was a proper party up there based on what other hikers told us, the cabin and tent pads below must have been at full capacity. We decide to stop for a quick bite to eat before the final 5 minute hike (bordering scramble) to the summit. The relatively low effort it takes to get up to the summit is well worth it for the incredible views at the top. To the North, a spectacular view of Goat island and the Rainbow range. To the East, a vast overview of most of the accessible peaks of the Qathet region, to the South, Texada island and the straight of Georgia, and to the West, the squat Bunster range. After taking in these views for a few minutes, we turned our heads bearing SCT North and hiked down the far less enjoyable trail, which was really just a road. After 3 more hours, we were back at the car.
