Mount Baldy

Mount Baldy - 2005 M 805M Prominence 50.125579 -124.318458 Aug 27, 2024 1770M+ Elevation Gain 10H 41M C2C, 10H 10M Moving I had been wanting to do Baldy for a while now, and wanted to make sure I got it in this summer. With a trip to the Island on the 28th, It left me with only one day I might be able to take a crack at it. Despite the forecast showing no rain for the day, It had been raining steadily for most of the week ahead of the 27th, so everything would still be wet. With Tyler unable to join me, I decided to give it a shot solo. I took off from town on the evening of the 26th, and after 2 and a half hours of driving, I made it to the site of the removed bridge at the end of Dianne main where I would camp out in the truck, then start the next morning. It rained all night, but by 4 AM when I woke up, it had finally stopped. I started moving at 4:33 AM and cruised through the ever more overgrown FSR that I had already hiked twice previously. The FSR hike took roughly 1 and a ...

Tom's Thumb

Tom's Thumb - 1581M 201M Prominence 50.02995 -124.21344 Aug 22, 2024 977M Elevation Gain 6H 8M C2C, 5H 20M Moving I probably should have gone up Tom's when I was up Marmot only a few months ago. It lies just East on the same ridge line, and would have made complete sense to do them at the same time. Regardless, it is not the most strenuous approach, and made for a nice short day out. Phillip and I drove up Goat main sometime around 8 AM, and after about an hour of driving, we made it to the same overgrown FSR that I had previously accessed both Marmot and Juarez from. The road walk is fast, and after about half an hour you dive into the shrubbery and cross the creek that follows the road on your left. The creek crossing was easier than I remember it being, but after the creek lies a short but incredibly dense bushwhack to where the forest starts. The forest is smooth sailing for the most part, and you can basically go straight up the side of the mountain. Lower down there is a...

Mount Alfred, Lausmann Peak

Mount Alfred - 2420M 1316M Prominence 50.205886 -124.076674 August 15, 2024 14H 30M C2C Lausmann Peak - 2221M 141M Prominence 50.198609 -124.099014 August 15, 2024 1H 30M Approx. detour This big backcountry beauty has struck my interest for years, but due to the glacier that looms below, I never considered it achievable until I had more experience. With Tyler finally getting a day off work with good weather, and having recruited an eager German in the form of Phillip, we set out to make it happen. On August 14 we drove out of town at a quarter to 9 in the evening. It was already almost dark, and by the time we hit Goat main, our energy had quickly dwindled and we all just wanted to sleep. After around 3 hours we finally made it to our camping site for the night. This was mainly because the road was becoming almost impassable for Tyler's big burly F150 after the Center lake turn off. Phillip and I pitched our tents in the middle of the road, and Tyler curled up in the truck. Roughly...

Canby Mountain

Canby Mountain - 4110M 288M Prominence 37.799413 -107.545912 August 3, 2024 Colorado Trail detour Canby Mountain was probably the most exciting side peak that I climbed along the trail, and it served a purpose too. The original CT directly goes around the base of the mountain in a semi circle, and going up and over virtually made my route a straight shot. The night of the second, I camped at an immense altitude of over 13 thousand feet, my highest camp along the trail, from this point you could already see Canby and the interesting rock tower ridge to it's South East. In the early morning I got up as the sun was rising and made my way down the trail, until getting off near where the scree slope started on the North East ridge. At the scree slope, I slogged my way up, trying to be careful with my foot placement not to slide down. The scree got progressively steeper until it started to morph into more of a boulder field with some pieces of more solid rock. The rock was extremely unp...

Coney Point

Coney Point (Benchmark) - 4066M 300M Prominence 37.860448 -107.346859 August 2, 2024 Colorado Trail detour Coney Point is the peak that lies just above the high point of the Colorado Trail. After a very enjoyable morning of sunrise hiking along the ridge that Coney lies on, I figured it couldn't hurt to add a few more meters of gain and bag another peak. Looking over the steep West side of the summit, the views were quite enjoyable too. It turned out to be a good spot to take a break, have a snack and brush my teeth. Coney Point Survey marker A good summit for some trail mix Route
