Manddale, La Rhune

Manddale - 573M 283M Prominence La Rhune - 905M 683M Prominence HRP Day 2 stats 28.37KM 1768M Ascent, 1415M Descent Last night I made my start on the HRP. The HRP is the Haute Route of the Pyrenees, traversing the Pyrenes mountain range that separates France and Spain. I started hiking on the edge of the Atlantic ocean in the town of Hendaye, and soon set up camp after finding a spot just outside of town. On day 2 I woke up for my first full day of hiking and started making my way to summit number 1. Manddale is the first summit that is close enough to the trail to justify tagging. This summit is quite uninteresting, but it is so close to the route that I could not turn it down, despite being just a small coastal bump. I had the chance to bag one more small bump before this, but was too unenthused by it and the damp and grey weather. I ended up taking a lower route on the mountain which ended up being a catastrophe of a soaking wet bushwhack on a goat trail, avoiding the peak probably ...

Trio Mountain

Trio Mountain - 1731M 911M Prominence 49.87938, -126.00334 June 15, 2025 4H 3M C2C, 3H 45M Moving Time, 7KM 1100M Elevation Gain Yesterday we were forced to turn back on Warden Peak due to heavy-ish rainfall in the evening. We did not expect the technical part of the climb to be dry by early morning, so we turned back to Gold River and looked for another objective. We picked between Big Baldy and Trio Peak, two peaks that loom over Gold River and would be relatively quick access. At around 8 we left Gold River, where we had ate dinner, and drove up Heber River Main off of HWY 28. The road was in quite good condition until we reached a huge wildfire area and there were a few charred trees that had fallen on the road. I was able to chop them up with the machete and then drive the truck to a junction at 650 meters. From here we were forced to park, so we set up camp for the night. At 5:17AM the following morning we got going. I was unable to find any route description, aside from a trail ...

Victoria Peak

Victoria Peak - 2159M 1829M Prominence 50.05469, -126.10077 June 14, 2025 7H C2C, 6H 30M Moving Time, 10.5KM 1100M Elevation Gain Victoria peak is the 3rd highest on Vancouver Island, and one of the Island Qualifiers that I wanted to climb most urgently. I recruited Tyler to come to the Island with me yet again to come climb Victoria and the Warden. This is the first half of the weekend's story. We caught the 5PM ferry over on Friday, and when we got to Comox we had to make a few stops to pick up some materials for my work, but then we got driving towards Campbell River, then to Gold River. By the time we got to the community of Gold River it was getting dark, but we still had an hour of FSR driving North to get to the Victoria Peak trailhead. We took the main line and then eventually spurred off onto a side road. The road was in good condition, with a handful of deep but wide cross ditches on the upper section. The Tacoma did fine though, and we made it to the base of the trail an...
