HRP Day 33 stats
990M Ascent, 1852 M descent
26.38 KM
Day 33 was the final day of my 837KM trek across the Pyrenees. I had climbed 37 peaks in the 32 previous days, so rounding the number off to 40 felt good. I woke up at Col de l'Ouillat and had a small 350 meter climb to gain the first peak of the day, Puig Neulos. The morning light was very spectacular, and being on the summit gave a fantastic look ahead of the final 24 kilometers all the way to the end point in Banyuls-Sur-Mer. From Puig Neulos I continued along a broad ridge line that marks the border of Spain and France, all the way until the third peak of the day. I followed the ups and downs of the ridge, and walked along some more forested areas and some more grassy slopes up to Puig de Pradets. There was not really a trail up to the true summit of Puig de Pradets, so I just had to walk up the East side of the mountain following an electric fence. On the summit there was a few clusters of rocks, but the summit was not very noteworthy so I just kept moving. Next, I made my way down to Coll dels Terrers, up and over a bump, and down to Coll del Pal. I then made the small climb up to the last summit of the day and of the trip, Pic de Sallafort. I kind of missed the summit at first, as I thought it was a rock cluster further North, but then I consulted the map and found the true summit. It was yet again a quite lousy summit, but there were some cool rock formations. From Pic de Sallafort it was almost an entirely a continuous descent down to 0M at sea level. The closer I got to Banyuls-Sur-Mer the more I had to walk on the occasional road, and eventually I was walking through the city. The minute I made it to the sea I dropped my gear and dove in for a swim. It was a moment I had been long anticipating. A fantastic trip all and all, and it could not have played out any better or been any more jaw droppingly spectacular.
