HRP Day 17 stats

2349M Ascent, 1650M descent

30.1 KM

I woke up just outside the old town of Parzan and got going for the day, the objective for the day was to bag Punta Suelsa, and then get as close to tomorrows objectibe as possible. I started off the day by walking up an extensive gravel road from the village at 1150M up to the urdiceto damn at 1950M. I then made my way up to the Ibon Urdiceto and depostited my camp gear at 2370M and took a break to have a snack and dry out my gear. I then started making my way up a large bowl on the North West flank of the mountain. It was quite extensive and took me up to the summit ridge at 2800M. It was very loose, but none the less just a relatively steep hike on loose shale. Up on the ridge I headed east towards the summit. The rock got chunkier, and the terrain leveled out a bit. After less than an hour from where I had deposited the bag, I found the summit. It may not be a 3000+ peak in the Pyrenees, but it is quite close at 2971M, and is a p600 none the less. The views were great on such a clear morning, and there were fantastic views over all of Spain, as it is one of the taller peaks on the South side of the Pyrenees Range. There were also excellent views of tomorrows goal, Tuca de Posets. After a few minutes on the summit, I followed the same route as I had ascended and got back to my bag. The trail was relatively easy to follow all and all, as there were a fair ammount of cairns. Once back at my bag I took another decent break, then headed East along my HRP route towards refugio de viados. I met up with Malou, who I had been hiking with a bit earlier on the trail, we hung out a bit at the refuge, then hiked up to cabana de la basa to set me up for tuca de posets tomorrow. The canbana was an un manned shack that could shelter a few people, and is far from the dirtiest one i have come across yet.
