Stella and I wanted to get out for a hike today as it was the only day of the week that worked for the both of us, but we wanted something more chill after a busy week. We agreed to go hike up mount Brew and maybe Keg Peak, and for this reason we got a pretty late start. I drove the taco up chance main and then turned op Roe Creek road. The road was not awful, with only a few reasonably shallow cross ditches and some bigger potholes. We parked where there was a parking lot right before the massive impassable cross ditch. A good portion of this peak consists of walking a long forest service road which would be a lot nicer with an e bike, or any bike. The road up until the Mount Brew trail, where we had originally planned to turn off was a breeze, and after the turn off it became slightly bushy. It was still completely manageable and far from what I would consider a nightmare FSR bushwhack, as the shrubbery was only really coming in from the flanks and the path was still clear. At the end of the FSR was a short but important trail through some dense greenery in order to reach the boulder field and open terrain where the significant ascent would start. This trail was quite hard to follow at first, as crossed a heavily flowing creek, with lots of new growth on it's sides. Eventually stella and I found the trail again and managed to get to the boulders without getting too too soaked. From the moment we got on the boulders all the way up to the snow, we were basically just hiking up mounds of glacial till, some spots were more frustrating than others. The most challenging part of the ascent was definitely crossing the raging creek. The silt and stones around the river were extremely loose and the flanks of the river were steep. It was a bit of a scary river crossing, as there were no real obvious crossing points, but I managed to stay pretty dry. One could probably cross this river much lower down where there was still a snow bridge, but It felt risky to me as I didn't want to fall through. After the river there was some more hiking up simple dirty and rocky terrain until the snow appeared as we started to reach the glacier. We hiked off to the side of the glacier, and worked our way up to a col between Cypress and a sub summit to the North East. The snow carried on for a while longer as we kept on along the ridge. Eventually as we got to the scramble the snow started to only appear in patches. We climbed in and out of the edge of a moat, which was the hardest technical part of the scramble, then continued along the ridge until just below the summit where some steeper but very easy scrambling took us to the top. I was amazed at how easy the scrambling was, almost hiking, for such a gnarly looking summit from a far. We enjoyed lunch on the summit then proceeded to retrace our steps and glissade as much as possible back down to the rocks. The river crossing from earlier seemed to be raging even more, but was easier now as there was no point in me trying to keep my feet dry anymore. The descent along the road was tedious as ever, but we made good time.
