Baby Munday Peak seemed like a good day objective to do that was not just a hike. It didn't look too technical based on the reports I had grazed over, so I made the decision to just give it a go and try my best at finding the route on my own. Stella was keen to join for the day and get out on a more interesting summit too, so we met up on the Chilliwack river and spent the night there before heading off in the morning. We got no early start, but it seemed like not the biggest day, so we were fairly confident we could be back by dinner. The short drive in from the valley road started with a turn off onto the well graded Bench FSR, then the nearly as good Foley FSR. Once we hit Airplane creek FSR the roads immediately deteriorated, but I was keen to try and push the Tacoma a little further, as it would be adding a long bit of distance starting from Foley FSR. I made it about 150 meters up the already quite treacherous road at an absolute crawl of a speed before deciding walking was probably faster and would save my truck a beating. We hopped out of the truck and began the hike up the road, and around 40 minutes later we were at the actual trailhead. The trail was a bit overgrown, but still very easy to follow, although a bit eroded in spots. The trail doesn't really gain any significant elevation until after you make a descent to Airplane creek, and then cross the creek. From this point the trail goes through an area with a bit of blowdown where it is easy to lose the trail, but it soon gets better again as it pretty instantly gets steep and works it's way up into the alpine. It was an absolutely brutally hot day and over 30 degrees in Chilliwack, so the steep grind of a trail was taking a little extra steam, thankfully it is somewhat shaded until you start to enter the alpine around 1600M. We took a lunch break in the meadows and then carried on to to the talus fields that guard the craggy towers of the peak. The talus fields became scree and then soon enough we were in a gulley on the West side of the ridge. This gulley was closer to the false summit, and had some old tat at the top. This gulley granted us passage to the other side of the ridge and from there we could get up high on the and begin the ridge scramble. A fair amount of class 3 and then more class 4 scrambling along the ridge led us to a point on the ridge, roughly 30 meters shy of the summit, where it began to get really airy and felt like we were entering some low 5th, or at the very least extremely exposed and scary class 4, so we decided to stop and set up a belay.
