Weeks ago I came across a message in the SWBC group chat from Taras who was looking for partners on his 2 week S2S mini rampage. I had some work to do back at home, but knew I wanted to make a trip down to SWBC and the PNW before the summer was over, so I commited with him to doing Overlord Mountain. Frankly I had never heard of it, and there was many other peaks that were on his list that I would of rather had the partner for. His schedule was fari...

Hippo Peak, Mount Steele

A weird spell of rainy mid summer coastal gloom has hit the coast over the last few days, but finally the forecast looked like it might hold off on the rain. I have been dying to get out since I returned to B.C., but due to work, weather and lack of successful planning I haven't been able to get up to much. I decided to convince my mom to come on a quick trip with me to a new place for the both of us. We don't do many trips together, and usually we do quick trips in the local Qathet backcountry, so we both wanted to do something new. I had mentioned to her the good network of trails in Tetrahedron Park after I had climbed Tetrahedron peak earlier in the year, and she was interested. We came up with a plan to catch the 7:30AM ferry from Saltery bay and head to the lower coast on Sunday. Once we got off the ferry we drove to Sechelt, and then took a turn through Sechelt to find Grey Creek FSR. This FSR is in very good condition up to the 'First parking lot" and in slight...

Mont Royal

Mont Royal - 235M 213M Prominence 45.50859, -73.58970 August 8, 2025 1H 44M C2C/Moving 189M Elevation gain/ descent 9.2KM Mont Royal is the green space that is just on the edge of town in Montreal. I had previously hiked around on it in a previous visit to Montreal, as there is a fantastic view point overlooking the city on a different part of the Mont. Most people will not bother to check out the real summit as it kind of sucks and offers no views, but the real summit is where the massive cell tower is. After eating a delicious dinner at the Denise, the restaurant my sister is working at, I started walking down Park avenue. Park Avenue is a pretty boring street to be honest, but eventually I turned up into the trails in the Mont Royal park. The trail was a well graded gravel road at first, then it became more of a trail as the trees thickened. There is an absolute maze of trails everywhere on this peak, and some are more official than others. To make it to the summit as quickly as pos...

Pico Das Eguas

Pico Das Eguas - 873M 673M Prominence 37.82714, -25.75458 August 7, 2025 45M C2C/ Moving 152M Elevation gain/ Descent 3.1KM On my way back to Canada after spending 7 weeks in Europe, my flight had a layover in the Portuguese Azores islands. I was not particularly mad at this due to the fact that it would split my flight into smaller more manageable flights, and I would have a whole day to do whatever I wanted on Sao Miguel island. I landed relatively late in the evening, so I immediately started making my way to my hostel that night. The public transit is quite bad here, so I started walking. Soon some random man pulled over and offered me a ride into town. Usually this is not how hitch hiking works, but he gave a good vibe, seemed helpful, and he happened to be on the same flight as I was just on. We exchanged numbers and agreed to do something the next day before I left. The following day we met up at his rental car and started exploring the West side of the island, we hiked a bit an...

L'Arpelin, Pic de Rochebrune, Pic Est de Cote Belle

L'Arpelin - 2604M 125M Prominence 44.82636, 6.74187 July 31, 2025 Pic de Rochebrune - 3320M 1019M Prominence 44.82229, 6.78755 July 31, 2025 Pic Est de Cote Belle - 2914M 114M Prominence 44.81368, 6.76348 July 31, 2025 12.2 KM 1470M Ascent and Descent 5H 30M C2C On my last day in the Alps, before heading back down to the plains of Turin, I knew that I wanted to bag a few more peaks. From the research I had done in the previous days, I found Pic de Rochebrune to be an easy and quick outing on a P1K over 3000M. While camping out the night before in a valley adjacent to Rochebrune, I found out that I might be able to tag a few more nearby summits to the next day's mission. Firstly, L'Armelin would be a super quick and easy bonus right from the start. The other summit I would try to add on is Pic Est de Cote Belle. This one was a bit more of a mystery, as the only info I could find on an ascent, aside from ski touring in the winter, was on the other side of the peak, and climb...
